Kevin Garnica

Dr. Kevin Garnica is a native of Southern California. He has been playing the piano since the age of five and has been composing since he was eight. One of the youngest winners of the 1995 ASCAP competition, his piano piece, Sonata for Scriabin, was chosen from over five-hundred entries. Mr. Garnica received his bachelor in piano performance, and was awarded top prize in his class. As a soloist, he has performed in Central and South America, Europe, and throughout the US. Largely self-taught, he has formally studied composition for only three years as a graduate student. During that time his chamber cantata based on the story of Joan of Arc, Jehanne the maid, was awarded Outstanding Graduate Composition. His song cycles, Still for Sleep and Dreaming, and Let Me Remember You, reflect his interest in poetry. Mr. Garnica received his Doctorate of Music from the University of Texas, Austin, with a full assistantship, under the tutelage of Anne Epperson, specializing in collaborative piano. He has performed with members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Pacific Symphony, the Austin Symphony, and Irvine Symphony. Currently, he is a freelance collaborative pianist, composer, lecturer. He also teaches and is on staff at the Biola University Conservatory of Music.
