Michael Scarola


Currently on the Directing Staff of the Los Angeles Opera, Michael Scarola recently directed critically-acclaimed productions of Blitzstein’s Regina for Utah Opera, Wagner’s Der Fliegende Holländer for Madison Opera and Bernstein’s Mass for the Utah Symphony. He has been on the Directing Staff of the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago and New York City Opera. Career highlights include directing Bernstein’s Mass for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of John F. Kennedy's assassination and being music consultant and concert camera director for the Emmy-nominated documentary Defiant Requiem, which was filmed in the concentration camp of Terezín, near Prague. The completed film was recently shown as part of the prestigious DocuWeeks Film Festival in New York City and Los Angeles. It has aired on PBS and was recently released on DVD. Mr. Scarola has also directed at numerous opera companies around the country including Dallas Opera, Opera Pacific, Michigan Opera Theatre, Arizona Opera, Sarasota Opera, Cabrillo Music Festival and the Boston Pops.
