Omari Tau

Omari Tau is currently Director of Opera Theatre at Sacramento State University where he joined in 2012. At home in the operatic and musical theatre worlds, as well as in jazz and pop genres, Tau has proven to be a versatile performing artist, educator and director. As a performing artist, Mr. Tau recently completed a nine-year tour of Disney’s The Lion King, performing the role of Banzai with both Cheetah and Gazelle touring companies which traveled throughout North America.

Tau maintains a relationship with Houston Grand Opera through HGOco where he has served as composer, stage, and music director preparing young professionals and college level artists for the stage with Opera To Go!, an opera troupe dedicated to youth audiences. He has also been teaching private voice for the last fifteen years, and maintains a studio at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento.
